General Reference Guide Introduction
RG-001-0-EN ver 1.5 eWON® - 20/03/2009 - ©ACT'L sa Page 5
1 Introduction
The aim of this guide is to provide you exhaustive information about the multiple eWON firmware features.
Considering the gains in terms of optimization and performances that firmware version 5 brings, we recommend you to migrate from version 4 to
version 5 if not already done.
Among the new items that are embedded in version 5, – the new web interface, the PPI-MPI-ISOTCP IOServers (MPI needs specific eWON
hardware), the VPN (not available in all the eWON types), more security with “Basic Authentication” login – may convince you to upgrade from v4
to v5.
The upgrade process is described very precisely at the end of this manual, at chapter “Upgrading the eWON firmware” on page 192.
This guide describes the version 5.3 features for all the eWON types. You will then find in this guide some references to a matrix table that you
can find at this end of this guide, in which you can quickly check whether the described feature impacts your eWON type or not. Please refer to
chapter “Table of comparisons between eWON types” on page 203.
Users who prefer to consult the printed manual should keep a printed copy of the eWON's comparison table apart from the entire guide to quickly
check the different features that are available or not, depending on the type of eWON they are working with.
Now let's discover all the possibilities offerd by your eWON V5 on a daily basis.
