For an Exchange mailbox-level backup - mailboxes, folders, and e-mails.
Fast cataloging
You may want to set the parameter to fast if the full cataloging tends to affect the performance of
the managed machine or if your backup window is too narrow. The following data will be displayed in
the catalog:
For a disk-level backup - only disks and volumes.
For a file-level backup - nothing.
For an Exchange database-level backup - only databases or storage groups and mailboxes.
For an Exchange mailbox-level backup - only mailboxes.
To add the full contents of already existing backups to the catalog, you can start the full cataloging
manually when appropriate.
Note for Virtual Edition users: When backing up to an unmanaged vault (except for a locally-attached storage),
Agent for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliance) always performs fast cataloging.
Data catalog limitations
Encrypted or password-protected data cannot be included in the catalog. Also, cataloging is not
supported for certain types of storage. Do not specify the --cataloging parameter:
When using the --encryption (p. 94), --password (p. 119), or --plain_archive (p. 91)
parameters.
When backing up to removable media, such as CD, DVD, BD, Iomega REV, RDX or USB devices.
When backing up to Acronis Online Backup Storage (--loc=online:// (p. 78)).
3.6.14.2 cbt_mode
--cbt_mode={on_if_enabled|on|off}
This parameter determines whether to use Changed Block Tracking (CBT) when performing an
incremental or differential backup of an ESX(i) virtual machine.
Changed Block Tracking, a feature of ESX(i) 4.0 and later, tracks changes to the contents of virtual
disks. This leads to faster backups and reduces the load on the storage during a backup.
Use of CBT is configured in the virtual machine settings. The CBT configuration parameters are set up
independently for a virtual machine and for each of its disks. For information about setting up the
CBT configuration parameters, refer to VMware Knowledge Base:
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalI
d=1031873.
Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 enables you to start using CBT on multiple machines without having
to manually set up multiple configuration parameters.
Available parameter values
on (by default)
Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 automatically enables CBT for each virtual machine that is
backed up, and for all disks of the virtual machine. The resulting CBT settings determine CBT
usage during the backup and are kept after the backup is completed.
