Fire protection systems are susceptible to severe damage if an over-pressure situation were to occur.
To prevent over-pressure due to dead-heading of the pump, a high capacity pressure relief valve
is necessary. This is where the ZW105FP steps up to the plate. Like its domestic counterpart, the
ZW105, the ZW105FP is built to handle the rigors of fire protection duty. Furnished standard with
150# flanges, the ZW105FP can accept up to 250 psi on the inlet and is provided with a standard
20 – 200 psi adjustment range. The ZW105FP is a fast-reacting valve that opens to relieve excess
pump pressure when the demand on the fire protection system slows or ceases, allowing the pump
to be stopped without resulting line pressure surges.
At pump start, the relief valve modulates to relieve excess pump capacity, maintaining positive system pressure at the pump discharge.
When fire demand slows or ceases, the Model ZW105FP opens, diverting entire pump output to discharge, allowing the fire pump to be stopped
without causing surging in the lines.
(Please note that if the Model ZW105FP is to be used on a continuous duty basis to maintain fire-system pressure, suitable back pressure must be provided
on the valve to prevent cavitation damage. (consult the Wilkins for details.)
