Product registration When using your product for the first time, it is recommended that you immediately register it.
Setting up Unpacking your Acer DA220HQL Your new Acer DA220HQL comes packed in a protective box. Carefully unpack the box and remove the contents. Back view No. Item Description 7 USB ports (Master) Connects USB devices to your Acer DA220HQL, such as a keyboard, mouse or storage device. 8 Port cover Open this cover to find the power, network and HDMI ports, and the microSD card slot. 9 Stand Pull the stand open to provide a stable base for your Acer Home Kiosk. 10 3.5 mm headphone jack Connects to stereo headphones. 11 Micro USB port (Slave) Connects to a computer via a USB cable.
Using your Acer Home Kiosk Powering your Acer DA220HQL Connect the DC-in jack to your Acer Home Kiosk and plug the AC adapter into any AC outlet. Warning: Only use the bundled power adapter to power your Acer '$ +4/.
Turning on for the first time To turn on your DA220HQL, press and hold the power button until the screen turns on. Wait a moment for your DA220HQL to get ready. You will then be asked some questions before you can use your DA220HQL. To start, tap to select your language and country, then tap Start. Follow the rest of the instructions as they are displayed. Note: If the DA220HQL’s screen turns off, it has entered sleep mode. Briefly press the power button to wake it up.
Using the touchscreen Your DA220HQL uses a touchscreen for selecting items and entering information. Use your finger to tap the screen. Tap: Touch the screen once to open items and select options. Drag: Hold your finger on the screen and drag across the screen to select text and images. Tap and hold: Tap and hold an item to see a list of actions available for that item. On the pop-up menu that appears, tap the action you want to perform.
Voice search If voice search is available, tap the microphone and speak your search request. See “Voice Search” on page 26. Navigation To navigate through menus and options, three (or more) icons are shown in the bottom-left corner. Back Home Recent OSD Back Tap this icon to go to the previous page, or to go up one level in a menu. This icon may be replaced with the hide icon in certain cases (such as if the keyboard or list of recent apps is shown).
Acer Ring - quick launch Acer Ring allows you to quickly and easily access your favorite apps and bookmarks. It incorporates a number of useful tools in an easy-to-use interface. Tap the Ring icon at the bottom of the screen to display Acer Ring. The left side of Acer Ring controls the volume and the right side shows Browser bookmarks. Four shortcuts around the centre of the ring start your favorite apps. Note: Open APPS > Settings > Ring to change these shortcuts.
The App menu The App menu displays applications and widgets available on your DA220HQL. Apps are displayed in alphabetical order. If more apps are available, an outline of the second page will be shown on the side of the screen. Swipe the outline towards the center of the screen to switch pages. Otherwise swipe to the left to see more Applications. When you are on the last page of applications, swipe to the left to see widgets available on your DA220HQL. See “Personalizing the Home screen” on page 15.
Tap the notification area to view more status information. Control buttons enable you to tap features on (blue) or off (white). Some event summaries include controls below the main status area, such as media controls if music is playing.
Personalizing the Home screen You may personalize your Home screen by adding or removing application shortcuts or widgets, and by changing the wallpaper. Adding or removing shortcuts or widgets To add shortcuts or widgets tap the Apps icon in the top-right corner of the Home screen. The APPS menu contains a list of shortcuts to applications you can drag to a Home screen. Tap WIDGETS to see small applications and links (such as custom shortcuts, contacts or bookmarks) that you can add to a Home screen.
Resizing a Widget Most widgets can be made larger, so you can give more space to information that is important to you. After placing a Widget on the Home screen, tap and hold to select it. Four diamonds will appear on each side, tap and drag the diamond until the Widget is the correct size. Tap Back to finish. Note: Not all Widgets can be resized. Removing an item from the Home screen To remove an item from the Home screen, tap and hold the item until the Remove option appears at the top of the screen.
Changing Android keyboard settings To use a different keyboard language or change settings, tap the Input options key, then select either Input languages or Android keyboard settings. These settings include Auto-correction and keyboard sounds. Predictive text or auto correction The Android keyboard can provide predictive text input. As you tap the letters of a word, a selection of words are displayed that continue the sequence of letters tapped, or are a close match allowing for errors.
Text assistance The standard XT9 keyboard has various features that assist you to enter correct text. To use these features, tap the Keyboard status icon; this will open a menu listing the text input methods available on your DA220HQL. Tap the settings icon next to the XT9 Text Input entry. Function Description Languages and settings Set word suggestion and key input (auto-correction) settings. Preferences Set sound when pressing a key, auto-punctuation or voice input.
1. Tap the text you want to select. If you can select this text, a cursor is inserted below the text. 2. If the cursor is not in the desired position, simply drag it to the correct position. If you previously copied (see below) text, tap where you want to insert the text. A PASTE button appears briefly below the cursor. Tap the button to paste the text. To replace a word, double tap the word. A PASTE button appears above the word. Tap the button to paste to replace the text. 3.
Locking your DA220HQL If you will not use your DA220HQL for a while, briefly press the power button to lock access. This saves power and ensures your DA220HQL does not unintentionally use any services. Your DA220HQL will lock automatically if it is not used after a while. To change the delay, tap APPS > Settings > Display > Sleep. Waking your DA220HQL If the screen is off and the DA220HQL does not react to any taps on the screen, then it has been locked and is in sleep mode.
Connecting devices to your '$ +4/ Connecting to AC power See “Powering your DA220HQL” on page 8. Connecting to a PC as a monitor Your DA220HQL has an micro HDMI port, that can be used to connect it to a computer, or video player. Use an HDMI cable with a micro HDMI connector, or a standard HDMI cable and a HDMI-to-micro HDMI adapter to connect the display to a computer or video player.
Accessing files on a USB storage device Note: Your DA220HQL supports USB storage devices that use the FAT or FAT32 file systems. You can access media files (photos, music and video) on USB storage devices with your DA220HQL's multimedia apps. For more flexible access, ‘file management’ apps are available in the Google Play store. Caution: Before removing USB storage, make sure your device is not using data on the USB storage device.
Connecting a Bluetooth device Only A2DP stereo headsets (playback only, no microphone) are supported. Please check for updates to the DA220HQL's software which may add support for additional Bluetooth devices. For Bluetooth settings, tap APPS > Settings > Bluetooth. Turn Bluetooth on and tap Search for devices to scan for nearby devices. Note: Please check for updates to the DA220HQL's software that may add support for additional Bluetooth devices. See “Updating your DA220HQL’s operating system” on page 54.
Using your '$ +4/ as a monitor Your DA220HQL provides a micro HDMI port. You can connect a computer or playback device to your DA220HQL, and use it as a monitor. See “Connecting to a PC as a monitor” on page 21. To use the DA220HQL as a touchscreen monitor, you must also connect a USB cable between a computer and the micro USB port on the lower-left corner of your DA220HQL. On-screen display (OSD) The OSD controls display settings.
Going online Managing Wi-Fi connections If you did not connect to a Wi-Fi network when you first started your DA220HQL, or want to connect to a new network, tap APPS > Settings > Wi-Fi to manage your connection settings. Alternatively, tap the Wi-Fi status icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. If Wi-Fi is not on, tap the Wi-Fi ON switch and wait for your DA220HQL to detect nearby networks. Tap the name of your network and enter a security password, if needed.
You may open multiple tabs. When a page is open, press the small tab with a plus sign. Simply tap one of the tabs across the top of the screen to switch pages. New tab Pinch to zoom in or out of pages. Tap and hold an item on a page to open a contextual menu. Voice Search With voice actions, you can send emails, find directions to locations, search the Internet and even send a note to yourself using your voice. Tap the microphone on the Home screen for voice searches.
The combined inbox feature of your DA220HQL allows you to view emails from multiple accounts in a single inbox. Online applications Your DA220HQL provides a variety of preinstalled applications. Many of these require some form of Internet access. These applications may include: Google+ Stay in touch with friends and family, personalize your very own profile, and more with Google’s social networking service. Maps Get easy-to-follow directions using Google Maps.
You can browse Google Play by category or tap the search icon to search for a specific application. Once you have selected an application, tap the DOWNLOAD button to download and install the application. You will be told which services (contact information, wireless access, etc.) the application requires access in order to function correctly. If none of these services seem unusual, tap Accept & download to proceed with the installation.
Using downloaded applications Once you’ve downloaded and installed an application, you may find it in the APPS or WIDGETS sections of the Application menu. Certain applications provide both an App and widgets, or only provide a widget (with no application icon). See “Personalizing the Home screen” on page 15.
Playing music and video Multimedia playback Your DA220HQL comes supplied with a variety of programs that you can use to enjoy multimedia content. Music Use Play Music to listen to music and other audio files that you download or copy from your computer. Tap APPS > Play Music to open the application. Tap the Shuffle All cover to play a random selection, or swipe through the albums and tap to view a list of tracks. Tap the play symbol or a track to start playback.
Note: You can return to the Home page while playing music; a Music icon is displayed with the notification icons. Tap this icon to control playback. Acer clear.fi With Acer clear.fi, you can browse and stream remote multimedia content from, or to, other devices with Acer clear.fi installed. Note: All devices must be connected to the same network. From the Home screen, tap Photo, Video, or Music. Alternatively, you can tap the specific app from the application menu. Acer clear.
clear.fi photos Tap the photo album to view the thumbnails. Tap and hold an album or photo thumbnail to view the menu panel. You can view photos found on any of the connected devices and save them. After selecting the file or album, tap the Share button to upload a photo to Evernote, Google+, or Picasa. You also have the option to send it to your Gmail account, transfer the file using Bluetooth, or Print it with Acer Print. clear.fi videos Tap a folder to view the thumbnails.
Note: The Acer clear.fi video player only plays MP4 files. Please check for updates to the tablet's software which may add support for other types of video. See “Updating your DA220HQL’s operating system” on page 54. After selecting the video file, tap the Share button to upload the file to Evernote or YouTube. You also have the option to send it to your Gmail account or transfer the file using Bluetooth. clear.fi music Tap a folder to list the audio files.
AcerCloud What is AcerCloud? AcerCloud is a personal cloud service that allows you to access your files over the Internet, and make sure your most important files are always up to date. With your personal cloud all your devices (PC, tablet, phone) with AcerCloud installed can access files on your main Cloud PC. For more information please visit the AcerCloud website: www.acer.com/acercloud Note: To access files on other devices, your Cloud PC must be on and connected to the Internet.
Using an Acer-branded device 1. On your DA220HQL, open the application menu and tap AcerCloud. Tap Sign up an Acer ID. 2. Enter the requested information.
3. Click the AcerCloud activation link in your email to verify your AcerCloud ID. Using an Acer-branded PC Note: If you have more than one PC, you should use the PC with the most storage as your Cloud PC. 1. Open AcerCloud on your computer and enter your information, email address and password.
2. Verify your AcerCloud ID. 3. Click the AcerCloud activation link in your email to verify your AcerCloud ID. 4. Open AcerCloud and click Next. 5. Set your PC as the Cloud PC and click Next.
Make this PC the Cloud PC - You must define one (and only one) PC as your Cloud PC. Copies of all content added to your personal cloud (e.g. PicStream) will be transferred to your Cloud PC, and content on this PC will be shared to your other AcerCloud devices. Note: If you already have a Cloud PC, do NOT select this option. Your Cloud PC must be connected to the Internet and have sufficient storage for all your media content. 6. Select the PicStream (see "PicStream" on page 40.
Viewing a document on your DA220HQL Three categories are available: Documents, Presentations, and Spreadsheets. Tap a category to change the type of document displayed. Each document is shown with a thumbnail of the first page, the title, size, date of last upload, and name of the computer that made the last modification. To view a document, simply tap on the thumbnail, and AcerCloud Docs will open it for you. clear.fi You can use AcerCloud to create a personal cloud.
clear.fi Photo To browse photos and change photo-sharing options, open clear.fi Photo. Photos You can share your photos stored on the Cloud PC to all your AcerCloud devices. The default clear.fi Photo folder on your Cloud PC is the Windows Pictures library. Photos from the Cloud PC are indicated with a cloud icon on your devices. PicStream AcerCloud automatically sends a copy of photos taken with your phone or tablet to your Cloud PC. You can find your photos in the clear.
clear.fi Media You can use clear.fi Video or clear.fi Music on your Android device with an Internet connection to play Cloud PC music or video. To watch videos open clear.fi Video. To listen to music open clear.fi Music. Videos and music from the Cloud PC are indicated with a cloud icon on your devices. Mobile Network Settings As some telecommunications carriers charge for data transmission, AcerCloud provides a setting that prevents streaming and downloads over mobile networks.
2. Tap the Menu option, then tap Settings. 3. Tap Mobile network streaming and Mobile network downloading to enable (green) or disable (gray) those options. For more information please visit the AcerCloud website: www.acer.
Managing people and contacts Your DA220HQL features an address book that allows you to save contacts to the DA220HQL’s internal memory or your Google account. Tap People from the application menu to view your contacts. If you don’t have any contacts stored on your DA220HQL, you can sync with your Google account contacts, import contacts from a contact data file (vCard or csv) or add a new contact.
Editing a contact If you have opened an new or existing contact you can enter information about the contact: Simply tap on a box and type the appropriate information. Click on the arrow next to the name entry to see options, such as adding a name prefix or phonetic name. To enter multiple entries, such as separate entries for mobile and home phone numbers, tap the plus sign to create a second entry. Tap the minus sign to remove an entry. Tap Add another field for more categories.
Starred contacts You may quickly access your favorite contacts by adding a star. First open the contact, then tap the star next to the contact’s name. Tap All contacts and select Starred to see only your favorite contacts. Editing a contact on your computer If you have synchronized your Google account and contacts, you can use any computer to access and edit your contact list. Open the Internet browser on your computer and go to contacts.google.com.
Using the webcam Your DA220HQL features a 1.2-megapixel digital webcam mounted on the front. Many chat or instant messaging apps can use this webcam so you can be seen by your family and friends. Use the settings in the app to control the webcam. Using the webcam as a camera Note: It is recommended that you insert a microSD card into the microSD slot before using the webcam as a camera. Please note you can only save photos and videos to internal memory or a microSD card, not an external USB storage device.
Icon Description Options Tap to see camera options. Camcorder mode Switches to the camcorder (video recorder). Camera mode Switches to the camera. Camera options Icon Description White balance Change the color balance to match the lighting: Auto, Incandescent, Daylight, Fluorescent or Cloudy. Exposure Increase or decrease image exposure. Camera settings Activate or change special settings: Picture size, Storage source and Restore defaults. • Set the resolution of the image (VGA, 1 MP or 2 MP).
Camcorder icons and indicators Tap the camcorder icon to switch to camcorder mode. Icon Description Zoom in Crop and enlarge the center of the screen. When using zoom, the image on the screen does not represent the quality of the final video. Zoom out You may only zoom out after you have zoomed in. Start / stop recording Options Tap to see camcorder options. Camcorder mode Switches to the camcorder (video recorder). Camera mode Switches to the camera.
Icon Description Video quality Change the video resolution: HD (720p) or VGA. Camcorder settings: • Restore defaults. • Use Internal Storage or the SD card (only available if a microSD card has been inserted). Close options Tap to close camcorder options. Shooting a video 1. 2. 3. 4. Ensure the options described above are set to your preferences. Frame your subject and steady your DA220HQL and zoom in or out as needed. Tap the record icon to begin recording. Tap the record icon again to stop recording.
Advanced settings Access Settings from the Application menu. Tap APPS, then Settings. Wireless & Networks Activating or deactivating connections Open the Application menu and tap Settings. Under WIRELESS & NETWORKS each connection has an ON/OFF switch that controls the connection. Tap an entry to manage your connection settings. Item Description Wi-Fi Turn the Wi-Fi function on or off. Bluetooth Turn the Bluetooth function on or off. Ethernet Turn the Ethernet connection on or off.
Bluetooth connections For Bluetooth settings, tap APPS > Settings, then under WIRELESS & NETWORKS tap Bluetooth. Here you can switch Bluetooth on or off, set the DA220HQL name and discoverability. Tap SEARCH FOR DEVICES to scan for nearby devices. To connect to a device, tap the device in the list of available devices. You may be asked to enter a PIN on both devices to establish the connection. Note: Only A2DP stereo headsets (playback only, no microphone) are supported.
Data Usage The Data Usage section shows how much data has been transmitted to your DA220HQL display, either in total or for each App. This information is useful if you are using a metered service. Virtual Private Network (VPN) This option enables you to connect to a private network, such as a secure work or office environment. Add a VPN by tapping APPS > Settings, then under WIRELESS & NETWORKS tap More... > VPN > Add VPN network.
You can adjust screen brightness and contrast from the OSD. See “On-screen display (OSD)” on page 24. Storage You can check how much of your DA220HQL’s storage (Internal, microSD or USB) has been used, and what type of files are using storage. Apps Closing an application To close an active application, go to APPS > Settings > Apps. Tap the RUNNING tab, then tap the program you wish to close. Select Stop to close the program.
Some applications, such as Gmail and Calendar, have additional synchronization settings. Open the application and tap the Menu button (three dots) and then tap Settings. Multiple Google accounts If you have multiple Google accounts, such as separate accounts for personal and business contacts, you can access and synchonize them from the Accounts settings section. Tap APPS > Settings > Accounts & sync. Tap ADD ACCOUNT in the topright corner and select Google.
Resetting your DA220HQL You may have to perform a reset if your DA220HQL fails to respond when buttons are pressed or the screen is tapped. To reset your DA220HQL disconnect the main power supply for ten seconds, then reconnect. Clean boot A clean boot will restore your DA220HQL to the factory settings. Warning! This will erase all your personal information, any contacts stored on your '$ +4/ and any programs you installed.
FAQ and troubleshooting This section lists frequently asked questions that may arise during the use of your DA220HQL, and gives easy answers and solutions to these questions. Aspect Question Answer Audio Why is there no sound coming from the device? If a headset is plugged into the device, the speaker is automatically shut off. Disconnect the headset. Check that the device volume setting is not muted. Check that the volume control is not at its lowest setting.
