vii Tips and information for comfortable use Computer users may complain of eyestrain and headaches after prolonged use. Users are also at risk of physical injury after long hours of working in front of a computer. Long work periods, bad posture, poor work habits, stress, inadequate working conditions, personal health and other factors greatly increase the risk of physical injury. Incorrect computer usage may lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, tenosynovitis or other musculoskeletal disorders.
viii Display • Keep your display clean. • • • • • Keep your head at a higher level than the top edge of the display so your eyes point downward when looking at the middle of the display. Adjust the display brightness and/or contrast to a comfortable level for enhanced text readability and graphics clarity.

1 When using your computer for the first time, it is recommended that you immediately register it. This will give you access to some useful benefits, such as: • Faster service from our trained representatives • Membership in the Acer community: receive promotions and participate in customer surveys • The latest news from Acer Hurry and register, as other advantages await you! How to Register During the initial startup of your notebook or desktop, a window will invite you to register.

The exact configuration of your PC depends on the model purchased. Setting up your computer The AcerSystem is a versatile and powerful system, supporting a mainstream performance CPU.
3 Selecting a location Selecting the optimum location for your computer: • Do not place the system too close to other electrical equipment. • Do not place the system in high-traffic areas or where the power cord or other cords may be stepped on. • Avoid placing the system in any location that is excessively dusty or damp. Opening the package Open the package carefully and keep all packing materials for later use. Ensure that all items are present and in good condition.
English 4 1 Turn on all peripheral equipment, such as the monitor, printer, fax, speakers, etc. 2 Turn on the system. Once the start up process is complete, you can begin to use your computer. Shutting down your computer Click to shut down your computer. In the event of a system crash, press and hold the power button on the front of the system for four seconds. After the system has shut down, turn off all peripheral devices.
5 Each time you switch on your computer, you will see this screen. If you do not move the mouse within 10 seconds, your computer will continue to start up Aspire RevoBoot main screen. Use Aspire RevoBoot Click on any of the icons on the screen or the launch bar, located at the bottom of the screen. Icon Function Turns off the computer immediately. Any changes made during the current session will be saved. Boot to the operating system. Any changes made during the current session will be saved.
English 6 Icon Function Opens Speed Dial, a screen that displays up to eight web pages saved as favorites. The Speed Dial screen also contains a text field used to perform an Internet search. Starts the browser. If you come across a PDF, DOC, XLS or PPT file that you want to open, double-click to open it in a new tab. To add an open page to Speed Dial, click the upper right corner of the browser window. icon in the Starts the Music Player application; you can play MP3 files. Starts Photo Manager.
7 Function Display the current volume settings for the speaker(s) and microphone when the mouse pointer is moved over the icon. Clicking either icon opens the volume controls. Indicate the network connection status. Clicking either icon opens the network configuration settings. Note: If you wish to view pictures or listen to music, you need to store the content on a USB storage device. IMPORTANT: It is not possible to store content on your computer’s hard drive when using Aspire RevoBoot.
English 8 Icon Function Set your screen resolution and theme. Adjust speaker and microphone volume. • To switch the audio output device, click Advanced and then select the preferred device. • To switch the microphone input, click Advanced and then select the preferred microphone.
9 The Aspire RevoBuild tool is a simple, highly integrated GUI-based utility to help you quickly install the Microsoft Windows operating system on your new computer. This software offers an easy-to-use, intuitive interface for preparing the required registration and installation information for hassle-free installation of the chosen operating system.
English 10 Using Aspire RevoBuild When you switch on your computer, the program fast launch screen is automatically displayed. Click Enter RevoBuild to open the Main Functions page. Main Functions page The Main Functions page provides four buttons to allow you to install the operating system, update system functions, store drivers on a USB storage device for installation, and view the help file. • OS Installation: Install the selected OS.
11 Confirmation Displays the selected installation configuration. Click Back to make any changes or Next to start installing the operating system. The first step will be to create and format the system partition (your C: drive). You will need to click Reboot to reboot your computer, following which you will be asked to insert the operating system installation discs and the installation will proceed automatically. Update System Update System allows you to update your system information.
English 12 The Post-setup Wizard The Post-setup Wizard will open on the first boot after you finish installing the operating system. Since there are some drivers that cannot be installed during the standard installation process, you may need to install them after the operating system has been installed. The Post-setup Wizard will inform you which drivers need installing; click the links to install the necessary drivers. Only drivers that have not yet been installed will be shown in this window.
13 The following questions are possible situations that may arise during the use of your computer and each is followed by easy answers and solutions to the situation. Q: I pressed the power switch but the system did not boot up. A: Check the LED located above the power switch. If the LED is not lit, no power is being applied to the system. Do any of the following: • Check if the voltage selector switch located on the rear panel of the computer is set to the correct voltage.
English English English 14 A: Do the following: • Make sure that the printer is connected to a power outlet and that it is turned on. • Make sure that the printer cable is connected securely to the system's USB port and the corresponding port on the printer. • For additional information concerning the printer, refer to the printer's documentation. Q: No sound comes out from the computer. A: Check the following: • The volume may be muted. Look for the Volume icon on the taskbar.
15 • When unplugging the power cord, do not pull on the cord itself but pull on the plug. The total ampere rating of the equipment plugged in should not exceed the ampere rating of the cord if you are using an extension cord. Also, the total current rating of all equipment plugged into a single wall outlet should not exceed the fuse rating.
