4. Drag the Variance slider to specify the color variance in each brush stroke. Higher values increase the number of colors
used in each stroke.
5. Drag the Vibrance slider to adjust the intensity of the colors in the image.
6. Do one of the following:
Click Done to apply your changes and close the Oil Paint tab.
Click Cancel to discard your changes and close the tab.
Applying the Old effect
You can use the Old effect to give your images an antique look. (The Old effect is similar to the Sepia effect, but produces a more
realistic appearance of age.)
To apply the Old effect:
1. In Process mode, click Edit.
2. In the Add group, click Special Effect, and then double-click Old.
3. On the Old tab, set the options as described below.
4. Do one of the following:
Click Done to accept your changes and close the tab.
Click Cancel to discard your changes and close the tab.
Old options
Age Specifies the intensity or degree of the effect. (The numbers do not correspond to how old the photo
should appear.)
Applying an Outline effect
The Outline effect is similar to the Edge Detect effect. You can use the Outline effect to create a highlighted outline of your image.
However, with the Outline effect you can control the thickness of the outline, whether an edge is outlined or not, and the color that
displays behind the outlined image. You can save your options as a preset
for future use.
To use the Outline effect:
1. In Process mode, click Edit.
2. In the Add group, click Special Effect, and then double-click Outline.
3. On the Outline tab, set the options as described below.
4. Do one of the following:
Click Done to accept your changes and close the tab.
Click Cancel to discard your changes and close the tab.
Outline options
Line width Specifies the width of the outline in the effect. The higher the value, the wider the outline.
Threshold Specifies how sharp an edge must be in order to be outlined. If you specify a higher value, more edges
in the photo will be outlined.
Background color Specifies the background color of the filtered image. Click the color picker to select a different color.
Applying a Pencil Drawing effect
You can use the Pencil Drawing effect to create a pencil drawing from your images.
