Dear ACCU-CHEK System Owner, Thank you for choosing the ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system! Congratulations on your decision to take control of your diabetes. We’ve designed your new ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system with comfort, convenience, and control in mind – to help make living with diabetes a little easier. This booklet will help you get the most from your ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system. To start testing quickly, you can also refer to the First Time Guide. If you have questions, we’re here to help.
The ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus System Your new ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus meter and accessories work together to measure the amount of sugar (glucose) in your blood. When you put a small drop of blood onto the test strip, the meter displays a blood sugar result in five seconds. Discussing your results with your healthcare professionals and following their advice about medicine, exercise, and food plans can help you better control your diabetes.
Before You Start Testing About the meter and test strips • Carefully read and follow the instructions in the Owner’s Booklet and package inserts for the test strips and control solutions. It is very important to follow the instructions in order to prevent a wrong result or improper treatment. • Review the time and date set on your meter before you begin testing. Your system comes with a preset time and date (Eastern Time). You may need to change the time to your time zone.
About testing yourself or others Certain substances can interfere with the ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus blood glucose system and cause falsely high results. For example, if you use peritoneal dialysis solutions containing icodextrin (such as Extraneal), or take certain immunoglobulin therapies that contain maltose (such as Octagam 5 %), it will cause inaccurate results. For more information, refer to the test strip package insert, or ask your doctor.
DO NOT CHANGE YOUR TREATMENT BASED ON A SINGLE RESULT THAT DOES NOT MATCH HOW YOU FEEL OR IF YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR TEST RESULT COULD BE INCORRECT. Chapter 1: Understanding Your New System The ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus System Display – Shows blood sugar results, messages, and results stored in memory. M Button – Press this button to review results in memory. Drum Door – Covers the compartment where the test drum goes. Test Strip Slot – Test strips come out of the meter here. Chapter 1: Understanding Your New Meter Test/On/Off Button – Slide and release this button to turn on the meter and advance a test strip.
Infrared (IR) Window – Used to transfer data from the meter to a computer. Test Drum – The bar codes on the label are automatically read by the meter. Black Cap – Use this cap for fingertip testing only. Lancet Protective Cover Comfort Dial with Depth Selection – This shows the number of the setting on the comfort dial. Test Strip – Apply a drop of blood or control solution to the black notch on the end of the test strip.
Meter Setup Using the Set Mode By using the set mode, you can personalize your meter to suit your lifestyle. Here are the functions you can customize: Beeper—Select on or off. Brightness—Set the brightness of the display. Time and Date—Set the time and date. Test Reminders—Select 1-3 times a day for a reminder to test. Hypoglycemic (Hypo) Indicator—Select on or off. If you choose “On,” choose the blood sugar level for the indicator.

There are three brightness levels: low, medium, and high. The brightness is factory-set to medium (shown by the number “2” at the top right of the display). Low brightness (level 1) Medium brightness (level 2) High brightness (level 3) set 1. Press M to move to the next option.

If you select the 12h time format, continue to press M to select the correct a.m./p.m. with the hour. Press S to set your selection.
You are here BEEPER BRIGHTNESS TIME / DATE TEST REMINDERS HYPO Setting the Test Reminders Test reminders are a handy way to remind you to test. You can set 1 to 3 reminders per day. The meter beeps at the time you set, unless you press any button. You must have the beeper set to “On 1” for this option. Your meter is preset with the test reminders set to “OFF.” You must turn it on to use this feature. • If the meter is on at the test reminder time, the reminder does not occur.

TIME / DATE TEST REMINDERS 5. The hour flashes with the test reminder symbol and “1” on the display. This means you are setting the time for the first test reminder. Press M to change the hour. Press S to set your selection.
You are here BEEPER BRIGHTNESS TIME / DATE TEST REMINDERS HYPO Setting the Hypoglycemic (Hypo) Indicator You can set the meter to let you know when your test result indicates a possible low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). You can also select what blood sugar level you want this indicator to have (60, 70, or 80 mg/dL). Before you set the hypo indicator, talk to your doctor to help you decide what blood sugar level is your hypo level. Your meter is preset to “OFF” for the hypo indicator.

Installing the Test Drum 1. With the meter off, open the drum door by lifting up the drum door tab located to the right of the test strip slot. The drum door tab projects slightly so you can lift it up. Chapter 1: Understanding Your New Meter 2. Press the red release button. You MUST press the red release button if there IS or IS NOT a test drum in the meter.
3. If there is a test drum in the meter, tilt the meter forward until the test drum comes out. 4. Insert a new test drum. Your test drum MUST have two bar codes on it (see the test drum shown). Chapter 1: Understanding Your New Meter 23 5. Close the drum door until it snaps. The meter turns on, automatically codes itself, and rotates the test drum to the first test strip. Then the meter turns off.
Notes: • Any time you open and close the drum door, the test drum will rotate until the meter finds the next available test strip. • Only open the drum door when the meter is off. Opening the drum door when the meter is turned on may damage the meter. • Once you remove a test drum from its container and install it into your meter, you have 90 days or until the “Use By” date printed on the container to use all the test strips. The meter automatically tracks this 90-day period for you.
Notes: • Store the test strips at 36 °F to 86 °F. Do not freeze. Allow the test strips to warm to the operation temperature (50 °F – 104 °F) prior to use. • Be sure to check the “Use By” date on the test strip container. Do not use the test strips after that date. See Chapter 5, “Display Messages and Troubleshooting” for the error code for expired test strips. If the “Use By” date is missing or cannot be read, do not use the test strips and call the ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center at 1-800-858-8072.
Test Strip Count Each time you press to turn the meter off, the number of test strips remaining in the drum is displayed. The . number of remaining test strips is displayed as long as you hold down In this example, there are 12 test strips in the drum. When you release , the meter turns off. Notes: • After a test, if the drum has three or fewer test strips remaining, the number, test strip symbol, and drum symbol flash on the display window.
Changing the Batteries 1. Push the battery cover in the direction of the arrow shown. Lift up on the battery cover to remove it. 2. Remove the old batteries. Insert the new batteries with the + and – ends matching the marks in the battery compartment. Chapter 1: Understanding Your New Meter 27 3. Place the battery cover over the batteries. The battery cover MUST BE flat and almost closed. The small tab attached to the battery cover still shows.
Notes: • The meter uses two AAA batteries. Use long-lasting alkaline (not rechargeable) batteries and keep an extra pair on hand. • Always replace both batteries at the same time and with the same brand. • When changing the batteries, try to insert the new batteries within two minutes. If it takes longer than two minutes, you may need to reset the time and date. • Try to wait until the current test drum you are using is empty before replacing the batteries.
Chapter 2: Control Testing Why Run Control Tests? Running a control test lets you know that your meter and test strips are working properly. You should run a control test when: • You open a new box of test drums. • You left the cap off the test drum container before using the drum. • You want to check the meter and test drum. • Your test strips were stored in extreme temperatures or humidity. About the Control Solutions • You can use ACCU-CHEK Compact Blue control solution. This solution is a blue liquid.
Running a Control Test You need your meter (with a test drum inserted) and control solution. Note: Your meter is designed to recognize the difference between ACCU-CHEK Compact Blue control solution and blood. This control solution is a blue liquid. To make sure the display is working properly, turn off the meter, then press and hold M to see the complete display. All the sections should be clear and should look exactly like the display as shown in Chapter 5, “Maintenance and Testing.
4. The time and date appear on the display with a flashing test strip and drop symbol. 5. Remove the control bottle cap. 6. Apply one drop of the control solution to a flat, clean, and easily washable surface such as the palm of your hand, a plate, or a table. If you are unsure if a surface is clean, wipe it off with a slightly damp cloth or cotton swab. Hold the meter so the test strip points downward. Gently touch and hold the black notch on the end of the test strip to the control solution.
Running a Control Test (continued) Example 8. The on the display disappears and the test result is displayed in five seconds. The bottle symbol appears on the display when the test starts. When the test result appears, the bottle symbol is saved with the test result to identify it as a control test.
ACCU-CHEK Compact Blue control solution ranges This is an example. Refer to the acceptable ranges on your test drum container. 9. Check that the result is within the acceptable range on the test drum container. Use the range – Low, Mid, or High – that matches the level of control solution you used. If the result is not in the acceptable range, see “Understanding Control Test Results” later in this chapter.
Running a Control Test (continued) 10. Hold the meter so the test strip points downward. This helps the test strip release from the meter. Slide and release to turn off the meter and release the test strip. Chapter 2: Control Testing 11. Throw the used test strip away.
Notes: • • • • • • Hold the meter so the test strip points downward. Do not bend the test strip. Do not apply control solution to the top of the test strip. Do not flood the test strip with control solution. Only a small drop of control solution is required. Never try to reuse a test strip that has been released from the meter. Do not open the test drum compartment when the motor is running.
Understanding Control Test Results ACCU-CHEK Compact Blue control solution ranges This is an example. Refer to the acceptable ranges on your test drum container. The label on your test drum container shows the acceptable ranges for Low, Mid, and High control solutions. Your control test results should be within the listed ranges. Make sure you compare the result to the range for the level of control solution you used (Low, Mid, or High).
If a control test result is not within the acceptable range on your test drum container label, do not use the meter until you solve the problem. Here are some things you can check: Troubleshooting Checks Action 1. Check the “Use By” dates on the test drum container and Replace control solution or test drums that have expired. 2. Check the discard date on the control solution bottle. 3. Make sure the test drum has not been in the meter Replace control solution you opened more than three months ago. 4.
Chapter 3: Testing Your Blood Sugar Preparing the ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus Lancing Device for Fingertip Testing Use a new lancet for each fingertip test to avoid infection and get a virtually pain-free test. Remember to use the black cap to do a fingertip test. The ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus lancing device is intended for patient self-monitoring by an individual person only. It must not be used to collect blood in a multi-patient setting as it does not incorporate any features to guard against cross-infection.
Recessed Area 2. Remove the black cap by using your thumb and finger to pull on the recessed area. 3. Insert a lancet until it clicks. 4. Twist off the lancet’s protective cover. Note: You can refer to the First Time Guide or the Quick Reference Guide for a simple testing summary.
Preparing the ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus Lancing Device for Fingertip Testing (continued) Notches 5. Snap on the black cap after lining up the notches. The cap snaps easily into place. Chapter 3: Testing Your Blood Sugar 6. Twist the cap to set the lancet depth. Start at 2 or try a higher setting if needed. This is a suggested setting, yours may differ.
Notes: • The best depth setting is the lowest number that lets you get enough blood for a test. Try different settings to find the one that is right for you. • For virtually pain-free testing, always use a new lancet for every test. • To reduce the risk of infection, never share your lancing device with anyone. • The black cap is for fingertip testing only. • The clear cap is for non-fingertip testing only.
Running a Blood Sugar Test with Blood from Your Fingertip Before running your first test, make sure you set up your meter properly and run a control test. See Chapters 1 and 2 for details. To make sure the display is working properly, turn off the meter, then press and hold down M to see the complete display. All the sections should be clear and should look exactly like the display as shown in Chapter 5, “Maintenance and Testing.” If not, call the ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center at 1-800-858-8072.

When you have enough blood in the test strip, is displayed. You may pull your finger away when is displayed.

Important Information About Running a Blood Sugar Test with Blood from Your Palm, Forearm, Upper Arm, Thigh, or Calf (non-fingertip testing) You have the option of testing other places on your body besides the fingertip. You can test the palm, forearm, upper arm, thigh, or calf. While fingertip blood can be tested at any time, there are times when testing from other places is not ideal – usually when your blood sugar is rapidly changing.
Do not change your treatment because of just one result. NEVER ignore symptoms of high or low blood sugar. If your blood sugar does not match how you feel, do a fingertip test to confirm your result. If the fingertip result still does not match how you feel, call your doctor.
Preparing the ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus Lancing Device for Non-Fingertip Testing Use a new lancet for each non-fingertip test to avoid infection and get a virtually pain-free test. Remember to use the clear cap to do a non-fingertip test. The ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus lancing device is intended for patient self-monitoring by an individual person only. It must not be used to collect blood in a multi-patient setting as it does not incorporate any features to guard against cross-infection.
Preparing the Lancing Device for Non-Fingertip Testing (continued) Recessed Area 2. Remove the black cap by using your thumb and finger to pull on the recessed area. 3. Insert a lancet until it clicks. Chapter 3: Testing Your Blood Sugar 50 4. Twist off the lancet’s protective cover.
5. Snap on the clear cap after lining up the notches. The cap snaps easily into place. 6. Twist the cap to set the lancet depth. Dial the depth setting to 3 for palm testing. Dial the depth setting to 5½ for forearm, upper arm, thigh, or calf testing. These are suggested settings, yours may differ. Note: We suggest starting at a depth setting of 5½ for forearm, upper arm, thigh, or calf testing, and 3 for palm testing.
Running a Blood Sugar Test with Blood from a Non-Fingertip Site You will need your meter with a test drum loaded, the ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus lancing device, a lancet, and the clear cap from your kit. Wash your hands with warm soapy water and dry. Dirty hands could affect results. To make sure the display is working properly, turn off the meter, then press and hold M to see the complete display.
3. A test strip automatically advances. 4. The time and date appear on the display with a flashing test strip and blood drop symbol. 5. Press the plunger on the lancing device (like a pen) ALL the way down until it stops. The lancing device is now ready for use. Tip: Rub the skin prior to lancing to increase blood flow.
Running a Blood Sugar Test with Blood from a Non-Fingertip Site (continued) Do not be afraid to apply pressure to the site with the lancing device to get a good blood drop. 6. Press the opening of the clear cap firmly against a fleshy area on the non-fingertip site. Press the lancing device up and down in a slow pumping motion to assist the flow of blood. Chapter 3: Testing Your Blood Sugar 7. Keep steady pressure on the site, then press and release the plunger.
8. Hold the meter so the test strip points downward. Do not bend the test strip. Chapter 3: Testing Your Blood Sugar 9. Touch and hold the blood drop to the black notch on the end of the test strip. When you have enough blood in the test strip, is displayed. You may pull the meter away from the site when is displayed.

Use of the wrong unit of measure may cause misinterpretation of your actual blood sugar level, and may lead to incorrect treatment. Example 10. The on the display disappears and the test result is displayed in five seconds. If you want to flag your test result for a special event, leave the test strip in the meter.

Only a small drop of blood is required. When you install a new test drum, a dot appears in the test strip count window on the back of the meter. This means the test drum is ready for a test. The meter counts down the remaining test strips after each test.
Recording Your Results Your meter automatically records your blood sugar result in the meter’s memory. Flagging Test Results You might want to flag an event such as an after-meal (post-prandial) test, exercise, or a nonfingertip test result. If you wish, you can flag your test result with the asterisk ( ). When you review your results in memory, this flag can help you remember what was different about the result. How to add the (or flag) to a result: 1. Run a test. 2.
Understanding Your Test Results The normal fasting blood glucose range for an adult without diabetes is 74–106 mg/dL.1 Two hours after meals, the blood glucose range for an adult without diabetes is less than 140 mg/dL.2 For people with diabetes: please consult your doctor for the blood glucose range appropriate for you. You should treat low or high blood sugar as recommended by your doctor.
Unusual Test Results If your blood sugar result does not match the way you feel, follow these steps: Troubleshooting Checks Action 1. Make sure the display on your meter is working properly. 2. Check the “Use By” date on the test drum container. 3. Make sure the test drum container is always tightly capped when stored. 4. Make sure your meter and test drum are always stored in a cool, dry place. 5. Make sure you always follow proper maintenance and handling procedures. 6.
Comparing Your Meter Result to a Lab Result A common question is how the blood sugar results on your meter compare to the lab results. Your blood sugar can change quickly, especially after eating, taking medication, or exercising. If you test yourself in the morning, then go to the doctor’s office for a blood sugar test, your results will probably not match, even if you are fasting. This is typically not a problem with your meter, it just means that time has elapsed and your blood sugar has changed.
Chapter 4: Meter Memory and Downloading Storing Test Results Your meter automatically stores up to 500 test results which you can view at any time. Once 500 results are in memory, adding a new test result causes the oldest one to be deleted. It is very important to have the correct time and date set in the meter. Having the correct time and date settings helps ensure appropriate interpretation of blood sugar results by you and your healthcare team.
Viewing Test Results 1. With the meter off, press M . The most recent test result and “mem” appear. 2. Press M to view your results from newest to oldest, one at a time. When you reach the oldest result your meter will beep if you have the beeper set to “On 1.” 3. Press S to view your results from oldest to newest, one at a time. When you reach the newest result your meter will beep if you have the beeper set to “On 1.” You can hold down M or S to scroll through your results more quickly. 4.
Viewing Your Average, Lowest, and Highest Blood Sugar Test Results With the ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus meter, you can see your 7-, 14-, and 30-day blood sugar test result averages, in that order. You can also see the lowest and highest blood sugar test results for each of those periods. 1. With the meter off, press M . The most recent result appears. 2. Press M and S at the same time. The average result from the last 7 days appears.
Notes: • Results stored in memory will not be lost when you replace the batteries. • When 500 results are in the memory, adding a new test result causes the oldest one to be deleted. • Control results are not included in the 7, 14, and 30 day averages. See Chapter 2, “Running a Control Test.
Downloading Your Results We offer a variety of ways to help you download your test results. For information on ACCU-CHEK software, call the ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center at 1-800-858-8072. You can transfer your stored test results to track, identify patterns, and print. Transferring Data Follow the instructions to prepare for your method of downloading. Infrared (IR) Window Make sure your program is ready to accept data from the meter. 1. Locate the infrared (IR) window on the top of the meter.
Notes: • If the data did not transfer successfully, try again. If you still have problems, call the ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center at 1-800-858-8072. • To make the most of the download feature, you must set the year, date, and time on your meter.
Chapter 5: Maintenance and Troubleshooting Cleaning Your Meter Caring for your ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus meter is easy. If the display or the outside of the meter is dirty, wipe it off with a soft cloth slightly dampened (wring out any excess liquid) with one of these cleaning solutions: water, 10 % bleach solution,* 70 % alcohol (ethyl alcohol), or 70 % rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol). Note: Only open the drum door when the meter is turned off.
Notes: Some cleaning methods can damage your meter. To protect it, DO NOT: • Use vinegar or scouring agents to clean the meter because they can harm the display and measurement window. • Spray any cleaning solution directly onto the meter. • Put the meter under water (or any liquid). • Pour liquid into the meter.
Cleaning Your Lancing Device To clean the ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus lancing device, use a mild dishwashing liquid and a soft cloth. DO NOT place the entire device under water. At least once a week, disinfect the cap after cleaning by placing it in 10 % bleach solution,* 70 % alcohol (ethyl alcohol), or 70 % rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) for 10 minutes. Allow the cap to air-dry after disinfecting. Maintenance and Testing Your meter needs little or no maintenance with normal use.
Display Messages and Troubleshooting Never make treatment decisions based on an error message. If you have any concerns, please call the ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center at 1-800-858-8072, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The meter will not turn on or the display is blank.
The beeper is turned on. See Chapter 1, “Setting the Beeper.” GD\ DYHUDJH The average blood sugar result for the last 7, 14, or 30 days is displayed with an “n” and a number. The “n” and number tell how many blood sugar results were used to calculate the average. The meter is ready for a drop of blood to be applied. Chapter 5: Maintenance and Troubleshooting The time and date have not been set; therefore the meter cannot calculate the average for the last 7, 14, or 30 days.
Display Messages and Troubleshooting (continued) Blood sugar is higher than the measuring range of the system (600 mg/dL). See Chapter 3, “Symptoms of High or Low Blood Sugar.” The batteries are running low. If possible, continue testing until all the test strips in the test drum have been used. Then replace the batteries and the test drum. If the battery symbol appears briefly and the display goes blank, the batteries are too low to perform any more tests. Insert two new batteries.
To make sure the display is working properly, turn off the meter, then press and hold down M to see the complete display. All the sections should be clear and should look exactly like the display as shown. If not, call the ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center at 1-800-858-8072. The temperature is below or above the proper range for the meter, below 41 °F or above 113 °F. Move to an area between 50 °F and 104 °F, wait 30 minutes or more, and repeat the test. Do not artificially heat or cool the meter.
Display Messages and Troubleshooting (continued) The meter is ready to download results to a computer. The test drum in the meter is empty. Insert a new test drum. If the message is still displayed, call the ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center at 1-800-858-8072. A dot also appears in the test strip count window on the back of the meter. There was not enough blood applied to the test strip for the test to start. Repeat the test with a new test strip and larger drop of blood.
The test drum 90-day use-by period has expired. If the correct time and date were set on the meter and the drum door has not been opened since the installation of the test drum, discard the old test drum and insert a new test drum. The drum door was opened and closed with a partly used test drum inside, or a partly used test drum was inserted. If there was a partly used test drum in the meter and it took longer than two minutes to replace the batteries, the year, date, and time have to be reset.
Display Messages and Troubleshooting (continued) The bar code information stored in the meter is lost. Slide and release to turn off the meter. Open and close the drum door. Make sure a test drum is loaded in the meter. The test reminder is turned on. The test reminder symbol flashes on the display and the meter beeps, if the beeper is turned on. There is no test drum in the meter, or the bar code on the drum is damaged or missing. Make sure your test drum has two bar codes on it. Insert a new test drum.
• Blood was applied to the test strip too soon. Slide and release to turn off the meter and release the test strip, then turn on the meter again. Repeat the test, waiting for the flashing test strip and blood drop symbol before touching blood or control solution to the end of the test strip. • The test strip was bent before the test started. Repeat the test with a new test strip. • The measurement window is dirty. Clean the measurement window area and repeat the test. See Chapter 5, “Cleaning Your Meter.
Display Messages and Troubleshooting (continued) The test strip drum does not rotate. to turn off Slide and release the meter. Open the drum door and press the red drum release button. Make sure your test drum has two bar codes on it. Close the drum to turn door. Slide and release on the meter. The drum and control bottle symbol flash. The 90-day use-by period is no longer calculated for this test drum. Perform a control test. While using this test drum, the drum symbol continues to flash.
The test strip was bent or removed during testing. Remember to slide , at the end of the and release test, to turn the meter off and allow the test strip to release. Slide and to turn on the meter release again and a new test strip advances. • The test strip is stuck in the test strip slot or the test drum does not rotate. Pull the test strip out of the meter and discard it. Then, take the test drum out and reinsert it. Remember the 90-day use-by counter in the meter is no longer correct.
Chapter 6: Technical Information Product Limitations Please read the literature packaged with your test drum to find the latest information on product specifications and limitations.
Electromagnetic Compatibility This meter meets the electromagnetic immunity requirements as per EN ISO 15197 Annex A. The chosen basis for electrostatic discharge immunity testing was basic standard IEC 61000-4-2. In addition, it meets the electromagnetic emissions requirements as per EN 61326. Its electromagnetic emission is thus low. Interference on other electrically driven-equipment is not anticipated.

Capítulo 1: Comprender el funcionamiento de su nuevo sistema El sistema ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus Pantalla – Muestra los resultados de glucemia, los mensajes y los resultados guardados en la memoria. Puede ajustar entre 1 y 3 alarmas por día. El medidor emite una señal sonora a la hora establecida, a menos que pulse algún botón. Para usar esta opción, debe activar previamente la señal sonora “On 1”. Su medidor viene con la función de alarma desactivada (“OFF”). Si quiere usar esta opción, debe activar la señal sonora.

3. Si hay un cartucho de tiras reactivas en el medidor, voltee el medidor de tal manera que el cartucho pueda salir. 4. Coloque un nuevo cartucho de tiras reactivas. Cierre la tapa del compartimiento del cartucho hasta que encaje.
Notas: • Cada vez que abra y cierre la tapa del compartimiento del cartucho, el cartucho de tiras reactivas rotará hasta que el medidor encuentre la siguiente tira reactiva disponible. • Abra la tapa del compartimiento del cartucho únicamente cuando el medidor esté apagado. Si se abre la tapa del compartimiento del cartucho mientras el medidor está encendido, esto puede dañar el medidor.
Notas: • Asegúrese de comprobar la fecha de caducidad (“Use By”) indicada en el tubo de tiras reactivas. No use las tiras reactivas pasada dicha fecha. Vea el capítulo 5, “Mensajes en la pantalla y solución de problemas” para más información sobre el código de error para tiras reactivas expiradas. Si no hay ninguna fecha de caducidad (“Use By”) indicada o si ésta no se puede leer, no use las tiras reactivas y llame al ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center al 1-800-858-8072.
Conteo de tiras reactivas Cada vez que pulsa para apagar el medidor, aparece en la pantalla el número de tiras reactivas que aún . quedan en el cartucho. El número de tiras reactivas restantes se visualiza mientras mantenga pulsado En este ejemplo quedan aún 12 tiras reactivas en el cartucho. Cuando suelta , el medidor se apaga.
Reemplazar las pilas 1. Empuje la tapa del compartimiento de las pilas en dirección de la flecha. Levántela para poder retirarla. 2. Retire las pilas usadas. Coloque las pilas nuevas poniendo atención a que los símbolos + y – correspondan a los símbolos en el interior del compartimiento. Capítulo 1: Comprender el funcionamiento de su nuevo sistema 27 3. Vuelva a colocar la tapa encima de las pilas. La tapa DEBE ESTAR en posición horizontal y casi a punto de cerrar completamente el compartimiento.
Notas: • El medidor funciona con dos pilas AAA. Use pilas alcalinas de larga duración (no recargables) y tenga siempre dos de repuesto a la mano. • Reemplace siempre ambas pilas al mismo tiempo con pilas de la misma marca. • Al reemplazar las pilas, intente introducir las nuevas pilas antes de que pasen dos minutos. Pasados dos minutos es necesario volver a ajustar la hora y la fecha. • De ser posible, no reemplace las pilas mientras haya un cartucho de tiras reactivas parcialmente usado dentro del medidor.
Capítulo 2: Realizar pruebas de control ¿Por qué realizar pruebas de control? Una prueba de control le permite asegurarse de que su medidor y las tiras reactivas funcionan correctamente. Debe realizar una prueba de control cuando: • Se le ha caído el medidor. • Abre un nuevo envase de cartuchos de tiras reactivas. • Deja abierto el tubo del cartucho de tiras reactivas antes de • El símbolo del frasco parpadea en la pantalla. usar el cartucho. • Sus resultados de prueba no coinciden con su estado general.
• Almacene la solución de control a temperaturas entre 36 °F–86 °F. No la congele. • La solución de control ACCU-CHEK Compact Blue está disponible en tres niveles – “Low” (baja), “Mid” (media) y “High” (alta). Interpretar sus resultados de prueba El rango normal de glucemia de un adulto no diabético en ayunas es de 74 a 106 mg/dL.1 Dos horas después de las comidas, el rango de glucemia de un adulto no diabético es inferior a 140 mg/dL.2 Para personas con diabetes: Su médico determinará cuál es el rango de glucemia apropiado para Ud. Debe tratar su nivel de glucemia bajo o alto de la forma recomendada por su médico.

Comparar los resultados obtenidos con su medidor con los obtenidos en laboratorio Una pregunta muy común es si los resultados de glucemia obtenidos con su medidor son equiparables a los obtenidos en laboratorio. Su nivel de glucemia puede cambiar rápidamente, especialmente después de las comidas, de tomar medicamentos o tras hacer deporte.
Capítulo 4: Memoria del medidor y descarga Guardar los resultados de prueba Su medidor guarda automáticamente hasta 500 resultados de prueba, de modo que puede revisarlos en cualquier momento. Una vez que la memoria contiene 500 resultados, al añadir un nuevo resultado la memoria borra automáticamente el resultado más antiguo. También puede ver el resultado de glucemia más bajo y más alto de cada uno de estos intervalos. 1. Con el medidor apagado, pulse M . Aparecerá el resultado más reciente. 2. Una vez a la semana, como mínimo, debe desinfectar el capuchón poniéndolo durante 10 minutos en 10 % de blanqueador líquido*, 70 % de alcohol (alcohol etílico) o 70 % de alcohol isopropílico (para frotar), después de haberlo limpiado previamente. Deje secar el capuchón al aire tras desinfectarlo.
Mensajes en la pantalla y solución de problemas Nunca tome decisiones terapéuticas basándose en un mensaje de error. Si algo le preocupa, por favor llame al ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center al 1-800-858-8072, 24 horas al día y 365 días al año. El medidor no se enciende o la pantalla queda vacía.
La señal sonora está activada. Vea el capítulo 1, “Ajustar la señal sonora”. La hora y la fecha no han sido ajustadas, por lo que el medidor no puede calcular el promedio de los últimos 7, 14 ó 30 días. Se visualiza el promedio de los resultados de glucemia de los últimos 7, 14 ó 30 días con una “n” y un número. La “n” y el número indican cuántos resultados de glucemia se incluyen en el promedio. El medidor está listo para la aplicación de una gota de sangre.

Entonces reemplace las pilas y el cartucho de tiras reactivas. El valor de glucemia es más alto que el rango de medición del sistema (600 mg/dL). El plazo de uso de 90 días del cartucho de tiras reactivas ha expirado. Si la hora y la fecha correctas fueron programadas en el medidor y la tapa del compartimiento del cartucho de tiras reactivas no ha sido abierta desde la instalación del cartucho de tiras reactivas, entonces deseche el cartucho de tiras reactivas usado y coloque uno nuevo.

El símbolo de la alarma parpadea en la pantalla y el medidor emite una señal sonora si ésta ha sido activada.
• La sangre fue aplicada demasiado pronto a la tira reactiva. Deslice y suelte para apagar el medidor y expulsar la tira reactiva. A continuación vuelva a encender el medidor. Repita la prueba y espere a que aparezca el símbolo de la tira reactiva y de la gota de sangre parpadeando antes de aplicar sangre al extremo de la tira reactiva. • La tira reactiva fue doblada antes de iniciar la prueba. Repita la prueba con una nueva tira reactiva. • La ventanilla de medición está sucia.
