Chapter 2: Control Tests Control Tests When to Perform a Control Test Performing a control test lets you know the meter and test strips are working properly. You should perform a control test when: • you open a new test strip box. • you left the test strip container open. • you think the test strips are damaged. • you want to check the meter and test strips. • the test strips were stored in extreme temperatures, humidity, or both. • you dropped the meter. • your test result does not match how you feel.

Chapter 3: The ACCU‑CHEK FastClix Lancing Device The ACCU-CHEK FastClix Lancing Device 3 Using the ACCU‑CHEK FastClix Lancing Device • The black cap is for fingertip testing only. • Remember that the opening where the lancet comes out is not in the center of the cap. • Remove the cap by pulling it straight off. Do not twist the cap. • The AST cap* is for testing other approved sites on the body, not the fingertip. • Remove the cap by pulling it straight off. Do not twist the cap.
3 The ACCU-CHEK FastClix Lancing Device Inserting a Lancet Drum You must first load the lancet drum into the lancing device to get it ready for use. 1 2 3 Remove the cap. Insert a new lancet drum, white end first, until it clicks firmly into place. Slide the cap on until it stops by aligning the notch on the cap with the notch on the lancing device. You are now ready to use the first lancet. The lancet counter shows a number 6, meaning you have 6 new lancets remaining.

Adjust the lancet depth by turning the comfort dial. Advance to the next lancet by sliding the lever forward and back all the way. The number in the lancet counter decreases by 1. The lancet counter window shows the number of remaining lancets.

Always discard according to local regulations. Insert a new lancet drum, white end first, until it clicks firmly into place. Slide the cap back on until it stops by aligning the notch on the cap with the notch on the lancing device. Remove the cap.
Chapter 4: Blood Glucose Tests Blood Glucose Tests 4 Warning Blood glucose results can be displayed in either mg/dL or mmol/L. The back label of the meter shows the unit of measurement. If the meter shows the wrong unit, contact the ACCU-CHEK Customer Care Service Center at 1-800-858-8072. If you do not know which unit of measurement is correct for you, contact your healthcare professional.
4 Blood Glucose Tests 6 5 7 If you miss seeing the code number, remove the test strip and reinsert it into the meter. Make sure the code number on the display matches the code number on the test strip container. Place the lancing device firmly against the side of your fingertip. Press the release button all the way down to prick your finger. When the blood drop symbol flashes, obtain a blood drop. 9 8 10 Advance to the next lancet. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Blood Glucose Tests 4 Performing a Blood Glucose Test with Blood from Your Palm, Forearm, or Upper Arm (Alternate Site Testing) You have the option of obtaining a blood sample from other sites on your body besides the fingertip. Alternate sites include the palm, forearm, and upper arm. The 2 palm testing sites are the fleshy areas under the thumb (A thenar) and under the little finger (B hypothenar). Blood obtained from the fingertip can be used at any time to test blood glucose.
4 Blood Glucose Tests Marking Blood Glucose Results You can mark a blood glucose result with an asterisk to indicate a special event. If you select a test result marker, it is automatically stored in memory. When you review the test results in memory, the markers can help you remember what was different about the test result. Here is how to mark a test result: 2 1 Perform a blood glucose test. The blood glucose result appears on the display. 3 Remove the test strip from the meter.
Blood Glucose Tests 4 Unusual Blood Glucose Results If your blood glucose result does not match how you feel, follow these steps: 1. Perform a control test. See Chapter 2, Control Tests. 2. Test results are stored from the newest to the oldest, so set the time and date correctly in the meter.
5 Meter Memory, Setup, and Data Transfer Warning Do not change your therapy based on an individual test result in memory. Talk to your healthcare professional before changing therapy based on test results in memory. Using the Set‑Up Mode The following features can be customized as required.
