Area of application for the voice unit
The voice unit is designed for persons with diabetes who, through vision loss, are no longer able to read results from their
blood glucose meter.
The blood glucose tests themselves are performed using the Accu-Chek Compact Plus blood glucose meter. The voice unit
communicates with the meter during testing, guides you through the blood glucose test with spoken instructions, and reads
the test results aloud. In addition, the Accu-Chek Voicemate Plus voice unit can be used to keep an electronic diary and to per-
form personalized data management operations.
The Accu-Chek Voicemate Plus voice unit is intended for self-testing only.
Persons with vision loss need a sighted person to instruct them in the use of the meter, the lancing device and the
voice unit.
Only a sighted person may clean the meter and perform quality control tests (by testing control solution).
It may happen in exceptional cases that a person with vision loss, through personal circumstances, is only able to
perform blood glucose tests when assisted by a sighted person.
Various people can use the voice unit’s read-aloud function. When they do, they must set the voice unit to “speech-
only” (see Chapter 12.5.2.1), in order to prevent several people’s results being saved in the diary.
