Frequently Asked Questions
Is it necessary to install the Data and License Server on a separate computer?
The Data and License Server is a database (MSDE or SQL), a file storage unit, and a license server. If the server workload is low, you
may install it not on a separate computer but, for example, together with one of the Stations.
How does network architecture (star connection, etc.) affect the speed of the system performance?
Network architecture affects FormReader Enterprise Edition performance just like it affects any other network task which requires
large file transfers via the network. The main data exchange takes place between workstations and the file storage unit (the project’s
shared folder). If possible, we recommend using a separate network fragment with its own router.
Are there any recommendations for the system architecture and network parameters?
Network data transfer rate – 100 Mbps
Installation of the workstations and the Data and License Server on separate computers
Operating system  Win2000/XP
Use of NamedPipes as the network protocol in SQL Server.
What is “sending a batch to the server and among the Stations”?
Batch transfer is a change in the project database. Batch files may actually remain in the same location, but the record in the database
which denotes the next stage of batch processing changes. The operation of getting a batch for processing and returning a batch are
actually getting and releasing the batch by a user; the batch being processed is unavailable for other users.
What is the function of the "Use local batch copies for ..."option?
A batch is copied from the Server to a Station local disk for processing, and when the batch is processed it is copied back to the Server.
If this option is selected, a batch is opened from the Server. This ability allows you to reduce the Server load and to speed up the batch
processing due to its local (and not network) processing. But is processed batched are very large (hundreds of documents, large
dictionaries), copying an entire batch can occupy the network for a long time.
