09 SUBNET CIDR Subnet masks are used for splitting networks
into smaller networks called subnets. A subnet
mask is a 32-bit binary number that splits the
IP address into a network address and host
address.
Subnet masks are typically represented in
either dotted decimal notation or the more
compact CIDR notation, as shown in the table
below.
