Thislittledeviceisdesignedtosecurelypowerthereceiverofyourelectricorglowmodel.TheLVR6Aispowereditselfbya6to9Vbatteryand
givesonitsoutputastableregulatedvoltage
tosuityourservosrequirements.
TheLVR6AisalsoaperfectmatchforourPROTRONIKOptoESCs.
ThetechnologyusedontheLVR6AmakesitnoiselessanddonotshortentheR/Csystemrangeinanyway.
TheLVR6Aproducesareallinearvoltage,soservosoutput
powerisreallylinear.

MostaftheESCsonthemarketareequipedwithintegratedBECorUBEC.ThiskindofregulatorisdesignedtopowertheRxdevices(receiverand
servos)fromthemainbatteryusedtopowerthemodel.Soyoudon’tneedaRxbatteryanymore.This
solutionisseducingbutithasitslimits:

WHERE TO USE A LINEAR VOLTAGE REGULATOR
TheLVR6Aistobeusedwhenthebatteryvoltageishigherthanthevoltagerequiredbytheservos.
TopoweraRx,3solutions:

PROTRONIKUBecpoweredbythemainbattery.VerylightweightbutneedsahighqualityRx.
- TheLVR6A.Thissolutionregroupsalltheadtvantagesofthetwoabovewithoutanytheirdrawback.
TheLVR6Aisdesignedtobepoweredbya2SLiPobatterywhichcapacity
mightbechoosenaccordingtotheRxconsumption.A2SLiPobattery
hasitsvoltagebetween8,4V(fullycharged)and6V(fullydischarged).ThisistheoptimumLVR6Arange.
Pleasenotethatlikeanylinearregulator,theLVR6Acan’tdeliveranoutputvoltagehigherthanitsinput
voltage.Sowhentheinputreachesa
voltagelowerthantheselectedoutput,theLVR6Awillonly“letthrough”thecurrent.Thismayoccurifyouhaveselectedanoutputvoltageof
5,8Vor6V.

TheLVR6Acanalsobepoweredbya6cellsNiMHbattery.Inthiscase,theinputvoltageoftheLVR6Awillbebetween7,8V(fullycharged)and
4,8V(fullydischarged).ThisinputrangeexceedstheoptimumuseoftheLVR6A.Soifyou
useNiMhbatteries,werecommandnottosetthe
outputvoltagehigherthan5.2V
YourLVR6AisalsoequipedwithaLEDBargraphshowingtheremindingcapacityofyourLiPobattery.This«voltmeter»iscomposedof4LEDs(3
greenand1red)
WARNING:thebargraph
issettoshowthestatutofaLiPotypebattery.ThisinfomightnotbeusedwithNiMhbatteries.

Assaidbefore,yourLVR6Aisalinearvoltageregulator.
Thismeansthattheoutputvoltagewillbesettoafixedvalue(jumperselected),regardlessoftheinputvoltage.
Thistypeofsystem,veryreliable,goeswithanobligatorywarmingdependingoftheusingconditions.Thiswarmingisnatural.
Tokeepthissystem
reliable,youhavetoensurethattheoveralltempwon’treachtheprotectiontemp(seedetailsabove).
Here’sanexampleshowingyouwhyandhowtheLVR6Aiswarming:
- Battery=LiPo2S2200mAh,whichvoltageis7,5V
- LVR6Aset
to5V
- Rxconsumptionisestimatedto3Aconstant(5standardanalogservos)
- Roomtemp20°C
TheLVR6Ahavetoeliminatetheexcessvoltage,thatis2,5V(7,5V5V=2,5V).
This«elimination»isdoneintotheLVR6A,asheat.
Theradiatormustdissipate7,5W(3Ax2,5V=7,5W).Thisvaluerepresentsthelimit
acceptedbytheLVR6A,supposingitisperfectlycooled!
Forcomparison,notethatsomeSMDsolderingironsareonly6W…
ThisisthereasonwhytheLVR6AMUSTBEcooled.
Withoutthepropercooling,youaretakingthechancethattheLVR6AswitchestotheAuto
Protectmode,whichprobablymeansacrash.
ThisexamplehelpstounderstandthatthepowerdissipatedasheatbyyourLVRisdependentonthevoltagedifferencebetweenitsinputand
output
ontheonehand,andthecurrentflowingontheother.Thehigherthevoltagedifferenceis,moretheheatdissipationwillbeimportant.
Similarly,morethepowerishigh,morethedissipationwillbehigh.
Finally,moretheambienttemperatureishigh,morethepowerofdissipationoftheradiator
islow.Youshouldalwaystakeintoaccountthese
threeparameterstouseyourLVR6Ainthebestconditionsofsafety.
Youcanfindoutputvoltagecurvesattheendofthismanualaccordingtothepositionofthejumper,thevoltageandcurrentconsumption.Itisup
to
youtodeterminefromthesecurvestheminimumsupplyvoltageoftheLVR6A regardingyourapplication.
Example:Ifyouchooseanoutputvoltageof5.4V(5.4Vjumperposition),andthatpermanentconsumptionofyourmodelis3A(bluecurve)then
thevoltageofyourLVR6Awillremainabove6.5V.Below,theoutputvoltagewillbereducedaccordingly.Thus,againforthesamemodel,the
outputvoltagewillbe5.1Vifthevoltagedropsto6V,whichisstillquiteacceptable(6V=maxdischargevoltageofa
2SLiPobattery)
LVR 6A OVERALL SPECIFICATIONS
TheoutputoftheLVR6Aisprotectedagainstshorts.Incaseofanexcessofconsumptionorashortcircuit,thedevicewillnotbedestroyed.
YourLVR6AswitchesdirectlytotheAutoProtectmodeandshutsdownitsoutput.Whenconsumptiondropsbackbelowtheratedcurrent,
the
outputvoltagereturnstoitsnominalvalue.
YourLVR6AwillalsoswitchtotheAutoProtectiftempgoesabove65°C.
WARNING:Wedrawyourattentiontothefactthattheonsetofoneorotheroftheseprotectionsduringaflightcancausethemodeltocrash.It
isyourresponsibilitytotakeallnecessaryprecautionssothatthissituationdoesnothappen.PROTRONIKwillinnowaybeheldliableforthecrash
ofamodel.
YourLVR6Ahasajumperselectionofoutputvoltage,allowingyoutoselectthevoltagepowerbestsuitedtotheservosinyourmodel.Read
thefollowingcharacteristicsofthedatasheetofthemanufacturer,andsetthejumperonaccordingly.Ifyourservosarecompatible,youcan
supply
avoltagehigherthan5Vandbenefitofoptimumspeedandtorque.Youcanalsouseanoutputvoltageof6Vifyourmodelusesadual
powerproducingavoltagedropastheXBICPROTRONIKaccessories(checktheinstructionsfortheaccessoryinquestion),tohaveanoptimal
voltage
supply.
YourLVR6Aisdesignedtoovertakecurrentpeaksgeneratedbytheservosduringaflight.Thus,averybriefinrushcurrentupto10Awillnot
beaproblem.
YourLVR6Ahasaspecialcircuitthatadaptsthebestoutputvoltageversuscurrentconsumption.Itisthereforenormalthattheoutput
voltagemeasuredwhentheservosareatrestisslightlylessthanthatindicatedbythepositionofthejumper.Inflight,whenconsumptionis
normal,yourLVR6Aissuethetensionyouhavechosen.Powerandspeedoftheservosareoptimizedduringtheentireflight!
YourLVR6Aisprovidedwithhighqualitysiliconepowercordsmadeof0.5mm²twistedwires.Thischoiceallowsaverylowvoltagedrop,
despitethehighcurrentpassingthroughthewires.Thus,at3A,thevoltagedropisapproximately0.1V.Underacurrentof5A,thevoltagedrop
remainsbelow0.15V.Weadviseyounotunderanycircumstancesextendthesepowercords,otherwisesignificantlyincreasethevoltagedrop.
Moreover,thesecordsaresuppliedsiliconetwisted.Thesetwistshavenotadecorativerole.Theyareessentialfortheproperfunctioningofthe
device.Regularlychecktheyaretight.Ifnecessary,feelfreetotightenthesetwists.
