4.INSTALLATION
1. Follow all local codes, or in the absence of local codes, follow the most recent edi tion of the
NationalFuelGasCode:ANSIZ223.1/NFPA54inthe USAorCAN/CSAB149.1NaturalGas,Propane
InstallationCodeinCanada.
2. Allgaswaterheatersrequirecarefulandcorrectinstallationto
ensuresafeandefficientoperation.
Thismanualmustbefollowedexactly.Readthe“SafetyGuidelines”sectionintheinstallation
manual.
3. Themanifoldgaspressureispresetatthefactory.Itiscomputercontrolledandshouldnotneed
adjustment.
4. Maintainproperspaceforservicing.Installtheunitso
thatitcanbeconnectedorremovedeasily.
RefertotheClearancesSectiononp.8oftheinstallationmanualforproperclearances.
5. Thewaterheatermustbeinstalledinalocationwheretheproperamountofcombustibleairwill
beavailabletoitatalltimeswithoutobstructions.
6. Theelectricalconnectionrequiresameansofdisconnection,toterminatepowertothewater
heaterforservicingandsafetypurposes.
7. Donotinstalltheunitwheretheexhaustventispointingintoanyopeninginabuildingorwhere
thenoisemaydisturbyourneighbors.Makesuretheventterminationmeetstherequireddistance
bylocalcodefromanydoorwayoropeningtopreventexhaustfromenteringabuilding.
8. Particlesfromflour,aerosols,andothercontaminantsmayclogtheairventorreducethefunctions
oftherotatingfanandcauseimproperburningofthegas.Regularlyensurethattheareaaround
theunitisdust‐ordebrisfree;regularmaintenanceisrecommendedforthesetypesof
environment.
9. Ifyouwillbeinstallingthewaterheaterinacontaminatedareawithahighlevelofdust,sand,
flour,aerosolsorothercontaminants/chemicals,theycanbecomeairborneandenterandbuildup
withinthefanandbur nercausingdamagetothewaterheater.
10. Directventconversion:
Theseunitsmaybeconvertedtoadirectvent(sealedcombustion)appliancebyinstallinga
directvent conversion kit (Part No. 9007669005) which will bring in all required
combustibleairfromoutsidethebuilding.Wheninstallingtheconversionkit,pleasefollow
allinstructionsincludedwiththe
kit.
Ifthewaterheaterisusedasadirectventappliance,theunitrequiresa5”intakeairpipe.
The intake pipe must be sealed airtight. Air supply pipe can be made of ABS, PVC,
galvanized steel, corrugated aluminum, corrugated stainless steel or Category III stainless
steel.
Terminatingtheventingthroughasidewallisrecommendedforthedirectventsystem.
Runningtheexhaustventandtheintakepipeparallelisrecommended.
Terminating the e xhaust and intake on the same wall / surface is recommended.
Terminating in the same pressure zone allows for pressure balancing, which prevents
nuisance shutdowns.Be sure to allow for proper clearance between the exhaust and
intake.
