Preliminary Con guration Steps
For preliminary installation the security of cer (CryptoOf cer) should
have the following in for ma tion:
IP address – a list of IP addresses that are assignable to be used for
as signment to the APs
Subnet Mask for the LAN
Default IP address of the 3e-531AP
DNS IP address
SSID – an ID number/letter string that you want to use in the con-
g u ra tion process to identify all mem bers of the wireless LAN.
The MAC addresses of all the wire less cards that will be used to
access the 3e-531AP network of access points (if MAC address
ltering is to be enabled)
Security Server IP Address, password, and Key type (if Dynamic
Key Management will be used)
The appropriate encryption key for Static 3DES or Static AES if
static key management will be used.
Initial Setup using the “Local” Port
Initial setup of the 3e-531AP devices as a wireless LAN is accom-
plished by an installation team. The fol low ing in for ma tion is provided for
the CryptoOf cer for use if an additional 3e-531AP needs to be added to
the con guration.
Plug one end of a separately purchased RJ-45 Crossover Eth er net
cable with one circular connector to the LAN port of the 3e-531AP (see
page 11) and the other end to an Eth er net port on your laptop. This LAN
port in the 3e-531AP connects you to the device’s internal DHCP server
which will dy nam i cal ly assign an IP ad dress to your laptop so you can
access the device for recon guration. In order to connect properly to the
3e-531AP on the LAN port, you must be sure that the
TCP/IP pa ram e ters
on your laptop are set to “ob tain IP address au to mat i cal ly.” (If you are
